Disclaimers

Last updated October 22, 2026

Please read these disclaimers before relying on anything on this website. They apply to everything here, including my writing, my newsletter, and any message you send me through this site.

Information only, not professional advice

Everything on this website, including articles, essays, newsletters, book excerpts, and other materials, is provided for general educational and informational purposes only. It is not psychotherapy, counseling, medical or psychiatric advice, or legal advice, and it is not a substitute for care from a qualified professional who knows your circumstances. Please don’t disregard professional advice, or delay seeking it, because of something you read here.

No professional relationship

Visiting this site, reading its content, subscribing to my newsletter, sending an email or contact form, or scheduling a free consultation does not create a therapist–client or attorney–client relationship. A therapy relationship begins only after we both agree to work together and you have completed my intake and informed-consent documents.

Not legal advice

I am a licensed attorney, but I do not provide legal services or legal advice through this website or my psychotherapy practice. Nothing on this site is legal advice, and nothing you send through it is protected by attorney–client privilege. For legal questions, please consult an attorney licensed in your jurisdiction.

Psychotherapy and licensure

I am a Licensed Clinical Professional Counselor (LCPC) in Illinois. Psychotherapy, in person or by telehealth, is available only to adults who are physically located in Illinois at the time of each session. My certifications as a Certified Trauma Professional (CTP) and Certified Anxiety Professional (CAP) reflect specialized training; they are not licenses.

No medical or psychiatric advice

I am not a physician or a prescriber. Please don’t start, stop, or change any medication or medical treatment based on anything on this site. Talk with your doctor or prescriber.

Emergencies

This website, my email, and my contact form are not monitored for emergencies, and Rachel Dennis, PLLC does not offer crisis services. If you are in crisis or thinking about harming yourself or someone else, call or text 988 (the Suicide & Crisis Lifeline), call 911, or go to the nearest emergency room.

Privacy of electronic communications

Email, text messages, and website forms are not fully secure and can be intercepted. Please don’t send clinical history, diagnoses, medications, or crisis details through my contact form or by email. Using electronic communication to share confidential, privileged, or protected health information means you acknowledge and accept those risks.

No guarantees

Every person and every situation is different. I can’t promise or guarantee any particular outcome from therapy or from anything you read here.

My book and other writing

What Kept You Alive and my essays reflect my personal recollections, professional perspectives, and life experiences. My perspectives are my own, and I don’t speak on behalf of all counselors or the counseling profession. Names and identifying details of some people and places have been changed. Passages addressed to the reader draw on published research, not on anyone I have treated. No client or patient is depicted in my book or on this website.

Links and resources

Links and resources on this site are provided for information only and don’t constitute an endorsement. Third-party contact information and websites change, and I’m not responsible for the content or practices of sites I link to.
